Officially implemented on Monday, the United States will withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement after formally notifying the UN of its decision. Decided by the American President in 2017, the withdrawal will take effect one year to the day after the notification, on 4 November 2020, the day after the next American presidential election.
During a speech delivered Monday in the small town of Lexington, Kentucky, Donald Trump welcomed the withdrawal of the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement vote in 2015. He was also pleased to have put an end to several environmental reforms initiated by Barack Obama. By 2025, Obama pledged to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25% from 2005 levels. In addition, he promised to invest 3 billion dollars in a Green Climate Fund to help developing countries. In his speech, Donald Trump announced that it was time to "put the miners back to work" so that they could extract "sublime clean coal.
